Mike Kelly's Westsider
About This Spot
Mike Kelly's Westsider is the kind of place that welcomes you with a relaxed, unpretentious vibe—a neighborhood bar and eatery where familiar faces mix with the lively hum of live music. Situated just off Westport Road in Kansas City, it carries the warmth of a well-loved local spot without ever feeling stale or predictable. Walking through its doors, you’re greeted by the easy-going atmosphere of a place where time slows down just enough to let you settle in and enjoy the moment.
The pace here lingers somewhere between spirited and laid-back. It’s the perfect backdrop for a casual evening, whether you’re catching a Royals game, tapping your foot to a local band, or simply unwinding with friends. The walls hold stories of countless nights filled with music, laughter, and the comforting buzz of good company. The friendly staff and welcoming bartenders craft an experience that feels personal and genuine, making it clear why people keep coming back.
Food at Mike Kelly's Westsider flows seamlessly into the experience, served with the kind of care that hints at the owner’s own hands in the kitchen. You won’t find a menu that demands formality; instead, it offers familiar favorites that feel both comforting and satisfying. Whether it’s a burger packed with crispy bacon and blue cheese, the slow-cooked pork loin, or the unexpected delight of fried cheesecake as an endnote, the dishes match the easy-going spirit of the place. And when it’s Steak Night or a special event, the kitchen’s thoughtful approach shines through in every bite.
The music is more than a soundtrack here—it’s a defining thread woven through every visit. It’s common to find original local bands and Grateful Dead tribute acts holding court, adding a distinct pulse to the gathering of friends and neighbors. This interplay between good eats, spirited drinks, and thoughtful melodies makes Mike Kelly’s Westsider a singular destination, grounded in its roots yet always alive with fresh energy.
In short, Mike Kelly’s Westsider isn’t just a bar or restaurant; it’s a place where the rhythms of Kansas City living come together naturally: in the smiles of strangers who feel like old friends, in the comfort of honest food, and in the shared joy of a local melody playing just for you.

Can't say enough good things about the way it feels to know that you're in the right place if you want a great, laid back, atmosphere with the most friendy people, outstanding original local live music, some of the regions best Grateful Dead tribute bands, and one amazing array of daily house-made food specials, meticulously created by owner, Mike Kelly, himself! Royals games are always on TV there, too! Oh, and you HAVE to check out the local original artwork covering the bathroom walls! Ruthie Becker-Clark has absolutely outdone herself with her beautiful gift.
